Psychology Fees and Rebates

I believe accessing high-quality psychological support should feel clear and transparent. Below you’ll find information about session fees, Medicare rebates, private health options, and cancellation policies for appointments at Thérèse Price Clinical Psychology.

I provide appointments from Spring Hill, Norman Park (Gather by Kindred), and via telehealth for clients across Australia.

Session Fees

The fee for a standard 50-minute clinical psychology appointment is $280. This is below the Australian Psychological Society (APS) fee of $315 per session. With a Medicare rebate for eligible clients, the out of pocket cost for an appointment is $134.75 per appointment. Please see below for more information on Medicare and private health rebates.

Appointment Locations

Appointments are available:

  • Spring Hill (Brisbane)
  • Norman Park (Gather by Kindred)
  • Telehealth Australia-wide

Cancellation Policy

I kindly ask for at least 48 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment.

Appointments cancelled with less than 48 hours’ notice, or missed appointments, incur a $150 cancellation fee. This policy helps protect appointment availability for other clients seeking support.

Reports and Additional Services

If reports, letters, or documentation are requested outside of standard sessions, any additional fees will always be discussed and agreed upon in advance.

Please note that medico-legal reports for court or tribunal purposes are not provided. I do not see clients referred under Workcover, victims assist or DVA.

Questions or Unsure Where to Start?

If you’re unsure whether therapy is the right fit, you’re welcome to get in touch to organise a free 15-minute call to discuss your needs and determine whether my services are suitable for you. You can also reach out prior to booking if you have questions about referrals, rebates, or appointment suitability.

Clinical Psychology Medicare rebate options (check eligibility with your GP)

Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP)

You don’t need a referral to book an appointment; however, Medicare rebates are available for eligible clients who have a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP). A MHCP is prepared by your GP and allows access to Medicare rebates for up to 10 individual psychology sessions per calendar year.

Medicare rebate: $145.25 per session

Gap fee: $134.75 per session

Eating Disorder Plan (EDP)

Clients eligible for an Eating Disorder Plan (EDP), authorized by their GP, can access up to 40 rebated psychology sessions per calendar year. A psychiatry review is required after the 20th session to continue receiving Medicare rebates.

Medicare rebate: $145.25 per session

Gap fee: $134.75 per session

Non-Directive Pregnancy Support Counselling

Individuals experiencing distress or uncertainty related to a current or recent pregnancy, or who have faced pregnancy loss, stillbirth, or termination, may qualify for Non-Directive Pregnancy Support Counselling under Medicare. A GP referral is necessary to access up to three rebated sessions per calendar year.

Medicare rebate: $80.05 per session

Gap fee: $199.95 per session

Chronic Disease Management (CDM) / Enhanced Primary Care (EPC)

Individuals with a chronic or complex medical condition may be eligible for a Chronic Disease Management (CDM) or Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) Plan. This referral provides rebates for up to five psychology sessions per calendar year, helping manage psychology fees effectively.

Medicare rebate: $61.80 per 50-minute session

Gap fee: $218.20 per session

Medicare Safety Net

If you or your family have regular medical or allied health appointments, you might reach the Medicare Safety Net threshold. Once this threshold is met, Medicare increases your rebate, which reduces your out-of-pocket cost (gap fee) for the rest of the calendar year. All eligible out-of-pocket expenses, including psychology sessions, contribute toward your Safety Net total.

Private Health

Please check with your health cover to determine whether you are eligible for rebates from your private health insurer, particularly if you have a Mental Health Care Plan that could help offset your psychology fees.

NDIS

Therese works with National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) participants who are self-managed. These self-managed participants are responsible for paying for their appointments upfront, including any psychology fees, and then submitting their invoices to the NDIS for reimbursement.

Supervision

Therese is a STAP-accredited supervisor offering supervision to other psychologists, including those completing their clinical registrar program. I can provide supervision either face to face at Spring Hill or via telehealth, and I can also assist with understanding Medicare rebates and how they apply to your Mental Health Care Plan. For further information about supervision and psychology fees, please email hello@theresepriceclinicalpsychology.com.au.
